Q1. What is a Naturopath - Herbalist?
Naturopathy integrates the wisdom of centuries of traditional medicine with a modern scientific frame of reference. It keeps a wholistic view rather than focusing just on disease conditions. It is basid on the concept of the vital force, also called Chi or Prana, which is the natural universal healing energy in us all, that we tap into and support.
Q2. What happens in a consultation with Susan?
In the initial consultation Susan connects with you gathers as much information as she can about you and your health situation, and your mental and emotional health. She may do some in -house testing such as iridology, blood pressure, pulse, tongue and skin checks, and she may recommend some pathology or HTMA (hair trace mineral analysis) testing if needed.
Every client and situaiton is unique- there are no cookie cutter protocols for conditions, involving lots of supplements. SImple recommendations may be given, including herbal tonics, mineral support or gentle exercise.
A 2nd appointment will be booked and at each subsequent appointment there will be fine tuning and suggestions made suitable to you, your unique life circumstance, including financial circumstance.
Q3. Does the consultation cost include any herbs or other products?
No, but these are kept as reasonable as possible. Susan has a herbal dispensary and makes individualised remedies for her local clients, and also has access to an online dispensary for non-local clients. Susan may recommend foods or products you can easily obtain at farmer's markets, supermarkets, pharmacies or health food stores.
Q4. What is a wholistic approach?
The medical model is a disease-focused model. It diagnoses a disease, and prescribes a pharmaceutical medicine or medical procedure which will alleviate symptoms of that disease. A wholistic approach works firstly with people, not disease names. It connects with people in the context of their whole life, and their whole being on every level, and looks for the underlying causes of symptoms. Natural Medicine is based on the premise that the body has the inherent ability to heal itself, given the right support. Using the healing power of nature, and gentle natural medicines and therapeutic techniques including diet and lifestyle, the whole person is supported during the healing process.

Q6. Does Susan see people for one off consultations?
Although she realises people need to meet her first, Susan prefers to take a long term approach with clients, rather than a short term one. She supports clients long beyond the initial health conditions they came with, to maintain their health, and help them to live a more healthy lifestlye, through the ups and downs and seasons of their life.
After the first few consultations, appointments are recommended seasonally, and at these appointments, recommendations are made to deal with any current health conditions as well as to support constitutional weaknesses, and vulnerabilities, and help to prevent future issues. Herbal tonics, seasonal diet changes and general lifestyle recommendations are often recommended.
